After the spectacular exit of the Note 7, everyone was waiting for Samsung’s new flagship device and that wait is now over. After the official launch of 21st April, Galaxy S8 is available in two variants, S8 and S8+ The retail price for S8 is Rs. 54,000 and the retail price for S8+ are Rs. 59,000 With warranty, these phones may be cheaper. Galaxy S8 is available in five colors Midnight Black, Orchid Grey, Coral Blue, Arctic Silver, and Maple Gold.
The defining feature of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is its Infinity Display and what a display it is the edges the curves the color reproduction and what a size the display is bezel-less and there are no buttons on it on the top, bottom and both sides it’s just screen. Even the home button in this phone is under the screen and on top, there is Gorilla Glass. As always the screen is Super AMOLED which means deeper blacks and better colors.
Galaxy S8 has a 5.8-inch screen whereas the S8 Plus has a 6.2-inch screen. Both phones have an aspect ratio of 18.5:9, while normally phones have an aspect ratio of 16:9 The reason for this is that these phones are longer than other phones. And out of the box, they have a screen resolution of 2220 x 1080 Full HD and the maximum resolution is 2960 x 1440 Quad HD which you can change the settings menu.
In my opinion, the display on the Galaxy S8 is its biggest feature, and till now I have not seen such a beautiful display on any other phone.
Samsung has mastered mobile phone manufacturing Even its mid-range phones now look like mini flagships like the Samsung Galaxy A5. Galaxy S8 has glass on the front and back and has a dual edge on both sides which means that the glass is curved on both front and back. Having a glass on the front and back, obviously, this phone is a fingerprint magnet.
On the right side is the power button, On the left, are the volume keys and a dedicated button for Bixby. On the top is the hybrid SIM tray, and on the bottom are the Headphone Jack, USB-C port, and speaker grill. The phone is very nice to hold in the hand. Its edges are smaller than those on the S7 Edge and I like these edges more. Overall, we don’t have any complaints about the build quality of this phone.
Galaxy S8 has a 12 MP back camera and an 8 MP selfie shooter on the front. The first big disappointment with this phone is that the camera has not been upgraded. The camera is like the one on the S7 edge, and Samsung did not say anything new about the camera in its Keynote, They only told us that this phone uses multi-frame processing for better low-light performance. In any case, S7 had an industry-leading camera and even now its camera is really good. Alongside this, in my opinion, mobile phone cameras have reached that point that we should not have big hopes for major camera upgrades.
In my view, iPhone 7 camera is still better than that of the Galaxy S8. Samsung Cameras always produce a slightly oversaturated color Everyday user like this, but as a videographer, I prefer more realistic images. Galaxy S8 has very good low-light performance. The phone has 4K Video Recording, Optical Image Stabilisation, HDR Mode and Manual Mode.
Galaxy S8 has a Snapdragon 835 Octa Core Processor, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB built-in storage, expandable to 256 GB with a MicroSD Card, A hybrid SIM slot in which you can either put one Nano SIM and One Micro SD Card or two Nano SIMs. We did not like the position of the Fingerprint Sensor We wish the fingerprint sensor was positioned like it is on the Google Pixel or the LG G6 where it is centered at the back. Being beside the camera, this fingerprint sensor is difficult to access with one hand and often my finger would touch the camera instead of the fingerprint sensor Maybe I will get used to this over time, but I did not like the positioning. Alongside this, this phone also has facial recognition like the Note 7.
It is a bit disappointing that this phone does not have dual speakers. Even the iPhone 7 now has dual speakers. Furthermore, the speaker grill is small in size and gets covered easily, but we do not have any issue with its loudness.

With Snapdragon 835 processor Samsung Galaxy S8 can beat all other phones currently available. It’s true that those phones currently have Snapdragon 820 and 821 processors, but in terms of performance, Samsung is at the top for now.
Samsung S8 has Android 7.0 Nougat and Samsung has introduced new icons and themes. As always, the interface is different from Stock Android, but this skin is lighter than the one on S7 and the phone is very smooth in general operation and apps open very quickly.
S8 has a 3,000 mAH battery, and S8+ has a 3,500 mAH battery. Starting from an empty battery, we got 35% battery in half an hour, Half charge took 45 minutes, and Full Charge took 1 hour and 35 minutes. We think the 3,000 mAH battery is small but because this phone has a more efficient processor, this phone will get one full day with medium usage and under heavy usage, you will get less than a full day And because of its Adaptive Fast Charge, you can top-up the battery in the middle of the day. Alongside this, as always, Galaxy S8 has wireless charging.
Galaxy S8 is the first phone int eh world with Bluetooth 5.0. Bluetooth 5.0 compared with Bluetooth 4.2 has double the transfer speed, 4 times the range, and with Bluetooth 5.0, you can connect two devices simultaneously. Bixby is Samsung’s personal assistant. Bixby shares the latest news with you and assists you according to your behavior. Bixby is also integrated with the camera of the S8 and according to Samsung, it can identify Products and Landmarks and give you recommendations.
In our testing, Bixby did not perform well. But let’s see if Bixby improves over time or not. because Samsung has given Bixby a physical button on the left side of the phone, and this button cannot be reprogrammed even with Third Party Software. After Google Assistant, I fail to understand the purpose of Bixby.
The good news is that you can still use Google Assistant by long pressing the Home Button. With the S8, Samsung has taken the mobile phone industry into a new direction and that is of bezel-less phones. No product is perfect but even with its minor weaknesses, the Galaxy S8 delivers a lot of value.
- Infinity Display
- Snapdragon 835 processor
- Fast charging, water resistance, and premium build quality.
- Let’s see what Samsung’s competitors launch to compete with the S8.
But one thing is for certain, 2017 will be a very exciting year for mobile phones. This brings us to the end of our review.
